Tokyo Otaku Mode is Making Their Own Otaku Currency

Tokyo Otaku Mode (TOM) announced near the end of 2017 that it is considering launching initial coin offering (ICO) for a cryptocurrency called Otaku Coin. This Otaku Coin is designed for use in the market for anime, manga, and games from Japan. The Otaku Coin Preparation Committee is currently seeking collaboration and feedback from “industry members, experts, and specialists.”

The primary service of the Okaku Coin TOM seeks to provide is a platform where fans can accumulate coins through “fan activity,” coins can be collected by watching trailers, first episodes and writing reviews. Otaku Coins could then be spent on anime merchandise and conventions or donated to support animation studios, producers, and animators.

Otaku Coin will primarily be used to connect fans of the anime industry with creators and relevant organizations. It may even become the default currency for Japanese pop culture, although that goal may be a bit too ambitious. It is certainly true that a lot of people all over the world have fallen in love with anime, manga, and Japanese games. There is a huge market waiting to be tapped, and cryptocurrency could make a big impact in this regard.

I feel this will be the big step the anime community needed. a place where us broke Otakus can now support are favorite anime, manga and video games without dropping a cent.  TOM plans to launch the Otaku Coin in the summer of 2018 so it is not to long til are anime community as a whole is going to change for the better.
