Studio Ghibli films will once again grace the screens of cinemas across the United States for the Studio Ghibli Fest 2018.
Select Ghibli classics and favorites will have limited screenings in cinemas throughout 2018, specifically from March to November, making the Studio Ghibli Fest 2018 the perfect venue for old fans to re-watch their favorites and for new fans to get acquainted with the magic of Hayao Miyazaki and the Studio Ghibli World.
Spearheaded by Fathom Events and GKIDS, the festival will feature a total of nine Studio Ghibli films – including Ponyo, which will be celebrating its 10th year anniversary, and the classics Grave of the Fireflies and My Neighbor Totoro which will mark their 30th year anniversary.
According to the organizers, the Studio Ghibli Fest will be offering both dubbed and subtitled versions of the animated features.

Ponyo: March 25, 26, and 28
Ponyo is Studio Ghibli’s unique take on Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid. The lot centers around a goldfish named Ponyo, who wants to be a human girl, and a 5-year old boy named Sosuke. Ponyo and Sosuke strike up a friendship, and as their friendship grows and Ponyo becomes more and more human – however, dire consequences soon arise.
The Cat Returns: April 22, 23, and 25
High school student Haru saves a cat from being run over by a truck. She later discovers that the cat is a prince named Lune. The Cat King, Lune’s father, asks Haru to marry Lune as a sign of his gratitude, and Haru is brought to the Cat Kingdom. When she is barred from returning home, Toto and the Baron, help her find a way to escape.
Porco Rosso: May 20, 21, and 23
Ace pilot Marco Pagott is mysteriously transformed from a man to a pig and becomes known as Porco Rosso who fights air pirates. He eventually meets Fio, a mechanic who repairs his plane after an attack and who sees through the enchantment to who he really is.
Pom Poko: June 17, 18, and 20
A group of shape-shifting raccoons come together to wage war against unscrupulous land developers who are destroying their forest homes. The title Pom Poko refers to the sound raccoons, known in Japan as tanuki, make when drumming their bellies.
Princess Mononoke: July 22, 23, and 25
Princess Mononoke’s central theme is about the environment, and the struggle between nature and man. The story follows Ashitaka, the last prince of the Emishi tribe, in his journey to undo a fatal curse place on him, and who is caught in the war between a forest princess raised by wolves, San, and the people of Irontown led by Lady Eboshi, who continually clears the forest.
Grave of the Fireflies: August 12, 13, and 15
Grave of the Fireflies is a heartbreaking tale of survival of siblings Seita and Setsuko who were separated from their parents during a bomb raid of their community in World War II. They rely on each other to stay alive in a world devastated by war. Grave of the Fireflies tells the story of the human cost of war.
My Neighbor Totoro: September 30, October 1 and 3
Siblings Satsuke and Mei live in an old country house as they wait for their sick mother to get well. As they get acquainted in their new home, they encounter many creatures, both the physical and spiritual kinds, including the lovable – and iconic – Totoro. Totoro is so iconic that he is the official mascot of Studio Ghiblo.
Spirited Away: October 28, 29, and 30
On the way to their new home, Chihiro and her parents stumble in an abandoned amusement park. Here, Chihiro’s parents are turned into pigs. Chihiro meets a mysterious boy named Haku, and is taken to a resort for supernatural beings where her name is taken from her. She is then told to work to set herself and her parents free.
Castle in the Sky: November 18, 19, and 20
Sheeta, a young orphan, is kidnapped by Col. Muska. During their flight to a military prison, their plane is attacked by air pirates and Sheeta escapes, thanks to a magic crystal around her neck. She meets Pazu, another orphan, and discover the floating city of Laputa while being chased by both Muska and the air pirates.
