Hidehiko Yokoyama, a 32-year-old unemployed man, was arrested for sending death threats to seiyuu Ayana Taketatsu.
Yokoyama, a former leader of Taketatsu’s fan club, has been sending the messages since July 2017. Some of them read, “I’ll never forgive you. DieDieDie,” and “You’ve been so full of yourself lately. I’ll never forgive you. It’d tick me off if I do nothing. Die die die.”
The emails were allegedly sent from a manga cafe in Kakegawa City. Yokoyama confessed to sending the emails following his arrest, and police are investigating to see if he is connected to about 7,000 threatening messages sent to Taketatsu’s agency. According to police, she has been receiving death threats and intimidating messages since 2014.
Taketatsu has become one of the more popular seiyuu in the industry since her debut in 2007. Her more recognizable roles include Azusa Nakano (K-On!), Kirino Kousaka (Oreimo), and Suguha Kirigaya (Sword Art Online).
