Gakuen Babysitters Episode 4 Review: Part 4

Saikawa’s comments: ‘Ryuichi-sama congratulations, I see your voice has changed.’ This guy cracks me up so much, I’ve been saying this since Episode 1 but this character is my absolute favorite. In the end as well when he tries to lure Kotaro with the ice cream and goes all ‘Tsk tsk tsk’. He is hilarious.

Demon Lady, Kotaro and the lemon: Tsundere chairwoman is not so tsundere after all! Throwing a heavy blanket on a baby that can hardly walk might not be good parenting but making Ryu food and drinks to make him feel better and making Kotaro involved in the process is definitely not tsundere. I am not even going to comment on the cuteness of Kotaro versus the lemon.

His dream: God, that destroyed my feelings. I can’t even begin to imagine how awful it would be for Ryuichi if that had happened. He looks all happy and cheerful but he is having a rough time after all. And after all that Kotaro wipes his tears with his ‘lemon’ hands. Poor thing. Hehe.

Themes & Trivia

Extracurricular high school clubs in Japan: In Japan, it is mandatory in most high schools that every student is part of some activities club. The reason why they have to be in a club is mostly for fun and for them to develop their creativity or sports or whatever skills. They are created only if a certain number of interested students exists and there is a willing faculty member that can be the ‘sponsor’. There are two kinds of clubs, one is the type of club that is basically a group of people with same interests which is allowed to meet at school but gets no school funds, and an actual club, which receives school funds. Basically, you have to get students who want to do it, find a faculty member to sponsor it, write up a charter and why the club is necessary, and submit it to the student council and school. If it’s approved, then you get to have the club up and going.

Bukatsu in Anime and Manga: Club Activities in Japanese schools

This episode made me realize how genuine the emotions of the characters are. Ryu might try to cover up the fact he just lost his parents and he is all bubbly and cheerful, but at the end of the day, in his sleep or when he is alone, you can see that he is having such a hard time dealing with this and the reason that keeps him going is, in fact, his baby brother. He also felt bad when he saw the other clubs having fun with a group of people which makes him such a relatable character and so human.

Not only this, this anime really makes you see what babies are good for. Sure, they are annoying as hell and they give you a lot of trouble but they are so genuinely pure and kind-hearted and that really makes you want to cry. Kotaro saw that his brother was not well and he went to Kamitani to try and recruit him and the babies saw that he was sad and even after they were screaming for sweets for so long they were willing to give them to him so he can cheer up.

Your voice has changed

So far this is my favorite anime of the season. I am honestly looking forward to every Sunday to watch this. What do you guys think about it? Let me know in the comments! Cheers!
