Hosoda loves to explore family dynamics in his films and he is looking to continue the trend with Mirai no Mirai (Mirai From the Future). Originally unveiled as Mirai, the film centers around a small family living in a small home. Four-old Kun-chan has been spoiled for most of his young life, but the birth of his little sister Mirai forces him to feel jealousy. Kun-chan is no longer the sole object of his parents’ admiration and is overwhelmed by negative feelings. However, an older version of Mirai arrives from the future.

In a past interview with Variety, Hosoda said the inspiration for Mirai no Mirai was the interactions of his two children. The movie will explore the bonds between siblings and will be human drama similar to Wolf Children.
