Monster Hunter: World Releases on Console January 26 – New Trailer & Monsters Revealed

During Sony’s press conference at TGS 2017, Japanese video game publisher and developer Capcom have announced that the next instalment in their Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter: World, will be getting a worldwide release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, 2018. A PC release, however, will follow shortly after.

The release date announcement was made at the end of the latest trailer that was shown during the conference. The video also introduces new monsters (including the flagship), areas and more of the game’s story:

In addition to its release date, pre-order bonuses and different editions of the game were revealed:

For pre-ordering the game players will get:

  • Origin Set Armor and the Fair Wind Charm Talisman
  • A PlayStation 4 theme (only from pre-ordering on the PSN store)

A Digital Deluxe Edition (US$69.98) that contains:

  • A digital copy of the game
  • Samurai Set skin
  • Three gestures
  • Two sticker sets
  • Additional character customisation options
  • PSN avatars (only from the PSN store)

And finally, a Collector’s Edition (US$149.99) that has:

  • A physical copy of the game

In Japan there will also be a limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro that will go on sale from December 7th. The Liolaeus Edition PS4 Pro will retail for ¥49,980 (~ US$449.00) and will come with a 1TB hard drive, a special red DualShock 4 Controller, a digital copy of Monster Hunter: World (not playable until release), 2 months of PlayStation Plus and a PS4 theme.

The game will be the first in the series to release internationally on the current generation consoles (with the exception of Monster Hunter Frontier) and will be the first official title on the PC (outside of Monster Hunter Online). The game incorporates a seamless gameplay experience allowing players to move freely across map areas in up to 4 player Co-op action.

Monster Hunter is one of Japan’s most popular franchises. The series started in 2004 on the PlayStation 2, and has since been on the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii U and the PC. To date, the entire franchise has sold over 28 million copies, with the latest Japanese instalment being Monster Hunter XX for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016, an upgraded release of 2015’s Monster Hunter X, selling over 1.7 Million copies in Japan. The most recent game to release internationally was Monster Hunter Generations for the 3DS, the localisation of Monster Hunter X. A port of Monster Hunter XX was announced for the Nintendo Switch coming to Japan on August 25th.

The brand new Monster Hunter title, Monster Hunter: World, will return to mainline consoles on January 26, 2018 with a PC release to follow shortly after. Further details about the game will be revealed at a later date.
